Does a 3D Cell Phone Make Much Sense

It was when modern 3D cinema got its first hit with Avatar in 2009 that manufacturers began to wonder about how popular 3D could be. Would a 3D cell phone be a hit? Shortly after Avatar, the first 3-D plasma and LCD TVs began to take over electronic store displays.

Around the year 2010, something else happened. The thing with all of these movies and devices was that if you wanted to see in three dimensions, you had to wear those special active glasses. People were usually so impressed with 3-D that they didn't notice how troublesome those big glasses could be. Once the past first blush though, notice they did.

It was something like Dolby Surround. At first, decades ago, it did seem a little scary and exciting to have sounds coming at you from all around you . After a while, it just became gimmicky. Much the same could be said of 3-D.

Manufacturers began to see that if they didn't do something quickly about the glasses, people would get really get tired of 3D.

And so came the first 3-D cell phone and the first 3-D handheld videogame and so on. Nintendo was the first with the handheld – the 3DS. HTC and LG came out with their first 3-D cell phone models too.

The great thing about these devices was the fact that you didn't need to wear glasses. Even if those devices were tiny, `you could share your experience with a friend standing next to you. And since you didn't have to wear glasses, you didn't have them darkening your view. The 3-D on these devices is bright, sharp and present.

Play a videogame on a 3D cell phone, and everything is bright and present. You can actually see the road ahead of you. On some games on the Nintendo 3DS, it's as if you can actually reach out and hold one the characters. Just imagine – you can touch Super Mario.

Even better, any of these 3D devices can actually take pictures and video in 3D. They have two cameras – correctly spaced.

The main reason you want a 3D cell phone is that you would want to play games on it. And you can watch movies in 3D. Those are the only things you do with anything handheld 3D device. If you're worried about how there aren't enough 3D titles out there, you'll be pleasantly surprised to see that they can easily play 2D too.

Glassless 3D only works if you hold your device in more or less the right position. Move it around like you have to when you play a game, and the 3-D goes in and out. Some games may not really be the best application for handheld 3-D device. For movies though, they can be very good. They can be very, very good.
